In addition to working as a private investigator, Matt Thompson is a criminal trial attorney with the Fort Worth firm of Gill & Brissette.

Matt began his career in criminal law as a law clerk for the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in Fort Worth.  While clerking, Matt was selected to work with a multi-jurisdictional team of special prosecutors in a 2014 death penalty case against a former Kaufman County justice of the peace.

During his studies at Texas A&M School of Law, Matt served on the Executive Board of the Texas A&M Law Review, as Online-Content Editor.  Matt developed the Law Review’s website and launched Arguendo, an online extension of the traditional printed Law Review.  Additionally, Matt was selected as a student representative for the nation’s first consent decree conference held in Fort Worth in 2016.  Matt’s studies in the areas of intellectual property, internet and technology law, and data privacy and protection helped prepare him to investigate white collar cases and sophisticated business transactions.

During law school, Matt worked as an extern for the Second Court of Appeals in Fort Worth, Texas.  During his time with the Court of Appeals, Matt worked on a multitude of appeals of both criminal and civil cases. 

Matt’s education and experience have uniquely qualified him to undertake sophisticated investigations involving corporations, business entities and related transactions.  His practice as a criminal defense attorney has expanded his investigative expertise into the area of criminal law.  For Third Chair he has worked on a range of cases from domestic assaults to complex mortgage fraud cases.

Matt received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of North Texas.  He received his law degree from Texas A&M School of Law.
